The Importance of Information Literacy for Educators and Learners
Literacy is generally defined as a person's ability to
read, write, and speak. Most people only think that reading and writing
comprehension as complementary skills which are used at any time, or even
frequently used when receiving information from raw reading regardless of its
validity. However, we know that
information and its resources are growing rapidly including not only
positive things but also a lot of negative things even hoaxes. Thus, every individual need information literacy to
filter the information they get. Information literacy is a person's ability to
comprehend when the information is needed, to search, analyze, evaluate, and
communicate the information effectively. For an educator, information literacy
is something fundamental that must be owned and mastered in order to develop
creativity in teaching and to create innovations in learning and to able to act
as a mediator of actual information. Literacy information must also be owned by
the learners so that they can learn to think critically and creatively.
