Teachers and Parents' Role in Children Cognitive Development
Changes in
individual development is a result of interrelated biological, cognitive, and
socio-emotional processes. In the late childhood stage (7-12), children have
been able to think logically towards actual objects in their cognitive
development. It would be unfortunate if their way to think is not controlled
well. Education is essential in this real operational stage, because without a proper
education, a negative self-concept may be formed. Teacher is an indispensable
and influential factor in enhancing children’s ability to think. This research
deals with teacher’s role in helping
their students to achieve the equal assimilation and accommodation in each
individual. Teachers should understand each individual’s characteristics. Teachers
have to meet the requirements of having high qualification, competence, and
dedication in doing their job professionally. In addition to teachers, parents
also play an important role in children development. They should be aware that their
children education is also their responsibility, not only educational institutions
responsibility. Therefore, teachers and parents should establish an effective
communication to provide accomplished services for their children.
